Your gastronomic journey in Sabah is incomplete without Ngiu Chap<\/em> (or Ngau Chap<\/em>). Ngiu Chap literally means “Mixed Beef”, which is a mix of beef and its innards such as stew meat, meat ball, tendon, liver, heart, tripe, intestine, tongue, and omasum, usually served with noodles in thick beef broth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though Ngiu Chap is the signature and favorite noodle soup of Sabahans<\/strong>, not all restaurants cook very good Ngiu Chap. Some of them even add excessive Ajinomoto (MSG) into the soup. After the meal, you will be so thirsty that you need to drink gallons of water. Below is a list of Best restaurants to enjoy Sabah Ngiu Chap in different styles<\/strong>, recommended by the locals and I have personally tried them all. As everyone has different taste, the following list is not in any order<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Traditional Style<\/em> – Kedai Kopi Loi Hin (\u6765\u5174\u8336\u5ba4)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kedai Kopi Loi Hin<\/strong> has been making one of the best Ngiu Chap in Sabah for over half a century. This restaurant is one of the “100 Best Coffee Shops of Malaysia<\/strong>” recommended by Tourism Malaysia. Location: <\/strong> Donggogon, Kota Kinabalu city<\/a>

Opened by a Hainanese in 1961, the Ngiu Chap of Kedai Cheng Wah<\/strong> is still one of our favorite after 50 years. This restaurant is run by Wong family, and eat out there is like enjoying a nice meal cooked by your mom. Location: <\/strong> Lido Penampang, Kota Kinabalu city<\/a>

When people talk about yummy Ngiu Chap, you will always hear the name “Menggatal Ngiu Chap”. Nyuk Pau<\/strong> started with one restaurant in Menggatal town (Kedai Kopi Nyuk Pau Baru) 25 years ago, and now it has franchises in Sabah and West Malaysia. 4. West Malaysia Style<\/em> – Kah Hiong Ngiu Chap (\u5bb6\u4e61\u725b\u4ec0)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kah Hiong Ngiu Chap<\/strong> is the most popular Ngiu Chap of Sabah<\/strong>. Not only their Ngiu Chap tastes good, they also serve Ngiu Chap in variety of styles. This restaurant was featured by Axian (Jason Yeoh), in his famous food programme Taste with Jason<\/strong> (\u963f\u8d24\u4eba\u60c5\u5473). Location:<\/strong> Kolam Centre, Kota Kinabalu<\/a>

5. Laksa Style<\/em> – Yii Siang Hainan Ngiu Chap (\u5fc6\u9999\u6d77\u5357\u725b\u4ec0)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Almost all my friends recommend the Laksa Ngiu Chap at Yii Siang. The serving portions are generous, and the shop is always packed during lunch hours. Their Laksa Ngiu Chap is delicious and creamy, thanks to the addition of coconut milk. Interestingly, it\u2019s not spicy at all! Location:<\/strong> Kolombong, Kota Kinabalu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
